United Nations University PhD Scholarships in Water-related Information System

The United Nations University-Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), in collaboration with the Centre for Development Research of the University of Bonn (ZEF), the German Research Centre for Geoscience (GFZ) and German Aerospace Centre (DLR) is offering 13 PhD scholarships for outstanding students to carry out research within the WISDOM (Water-related Information System for the sustainable Development Of the Mekong delta in Vietnam) project. WISDOM is a German-Vietnamese initiative (more information can be found on http://www.wisdom.caf.dlr.de/) comprising 20 institutions based in Germany and Vietnam and coordinated in Germany by the German Aerospace Centre and in Vietnam by the Southern Institute of Water Resources Research. The PhD scholarships are offered by UNU-EHS on behalf of the four organisations mentioned above through funding from the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).

The EMMEP (Erasmus Mundus Minerals and Environmental Programme) is a 2 year M.Sc. program for students in Mining / Geotechnical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Recycling and related academic studies. There are three different specialisations; accommodating groups with 15 to 20 students each.

Joining the EMMEP program is an excellent opportunity to study abroad with a group of international students.

Applications for the 2010-2012 Program have now been closed. For the 2011-2013 programme, applications from Non-European Students can be submitted until November 1st, 2010. European Students can apply until April 1st, 2011. The application form can be found here.

The Graduate Training Centre of Neuroscience is the first international neuroscience Graduate School was established at the University of Tübingen in 1999. In the future, three Schools will provide research oriented career tracks – leading to a master or doctoral degree – that provide an ideal preparation for a career in science and academia. in the group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Heine. The position is part of a research project on Combinatorial Computational Materials Science, where novel materials, including metal-organic frameworks, for proton transport and gas separation shall be developed.

The successful candidate, a highly qualified junior scientist holding a Ph.D., should have an excellent track record in the fields of chemistry, physics, and/or materials science. Expertise in the fields of nanoporous materials, super computers, scripting and software development are of advantage.
